n 24th February 2020, students of 4th semester M.Sc Zoology visited 'Biozeen' an animal cell culture and instrumentation company located near Hennur, Bengaluru as part of practical syllabus of Animal biotechnology accompanied by Dr Paari KA. Ms. Julie guided the stuents to the Animal cell culture lab and started the session by explaining the importance of Animal Cell Culture and its maintenance. The visit was a part of a workshop organized by the Department of Life sciences in collaboration with Biozeen. The workshop was mainly aimed at catering to the basic practical techniques involved in Animal Cell culture which includes the basics of lab maintenance, maintaining sterile/Aseptic environment , Maintaining cell lines, technique of passaging and Cytotoxicity assessment using MTT assay. The workshop aimed at providing hands on training in these techniques. The students were able to perform subculturing of BHK cell lines under Aseptic conditions. The workshop also included basic tour of Biozeen which include their microbiology labs, fermentation labs, clean rooms and 125L Bioreactor facility. The visit was fruitful since it was a hands on training experience. The basics of animal cell culture techniques were taught using practical experimentation.
